NOT the WebCT & Blackboard blog (final word)

OK, am going to leave the final word on this topic to some guys that I think WebCT and Blackboard should think about consulting:

“A powerful global conversation has begun. Through the Internet, people are discovering and inventing new ways to share relevant knowledge with blinding speed. As a direct result, markets are getting smarter—and getting smarter faster than most companies.

Most corporations, on the other hand, only know how to talk in the soothing, humorless monotone of the mission statement, marketing brochure, and your-call-is-important-to-us busy signal. Same old tone, same old lies. No wonder networked markets have no respect for companies unable or unwilling to speak as they do.

But learning to speak in a human voice is not some trick, nor will corporations convince us they are human with lip service about “listening to customers.” They will only sound human when they empower real human beings to speak on their behalf.” [The Cluetrain Manifesto]

Read the entire book online here, for free, and think about where you’re heading.

Skype

Hey, had my first proper Skype session this morning with Aaron & Bee, too cool and such a good connection: Australia – Brazil – Japan no worries :D

As I said before before please add me to your list of Skype contacts: jamesnfarmer

A few ideas / thoughts:

-Am wondering of there’s a way to develop a Skyperoll? Could be pretty useful…

-Wouldn’t this be the best app ever to build a social networking service off… one that people would actually use!!!

-Can’t wait for the simple solution for .mp3 recording (or would that be legal, as it’s ‘free’) to roll through.

Open source enterprise blogging through WordPress

Now that sounds like a better title for this kind of thing :o)

Just occurred to me that lots of people might be creating blogs to try this out which is of course way cool & something I positively encourage… and by the server stats it looks like that’s what’s happening.

You can create a WordPress 1.5 blog too using this, I’m still blown away, go and have a go!

But…

-While I’ll certainly implement this through Incsub soon I can’t guarantee that any content posted now will stay there (although I’ll try and keep it that way)

-If anyone wants to try out the enclosures and podcast can you not, please, upload hundreds of MBs here :o)

BTW, WP1.5 looks pretty impressive too…lots of nice features.

Holy Shit I’ve Done It…

Well, that was something I wouldn’t have been able to do a few months back I can tell you, come and check out my multiple-user WordPress Blog system WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!! – If I had a tune I’d dance to it :D

What you want to do is go here and give yourself a file ID http://incsub.org/wpmu/xxxx.

Then you’ll be asked to choose a blog name and pop in your email.

And then you’re there, you have your own brand new state of the art WordPress blog and you can do whatever you blinkin well like with it!!!

CHECK IT OUT!

So please y’all, wander over to the registration page and have a play around.. you can even edit the template, the style sheet, the whatever you bloody want.

Donncha O Caoimh I’d like to buy you a beer! This is going to change things!

[am already playing too… seems like themes need to be modiufied to work in this, will pop some in as soon as I (or someone else) figures out how to do this though]

WordPress Multi User (WMU)

This is very cool and has much much potential:

“Using WordPress Multi-user edition you will be able to [have] people be able to sign up for a new blog and have them securely manage their templates and settings without affecting any other users. Only one blog per user is allowed, but you can have unlimited users, and you can have multiple users on a single blog.”

So much potential, has anyone set up one of these we could try out… in education? I’m gonna have a crack but I think it’s beyond me… we shall see.
