How to get to the conference!

Filed under: General, Venue — James @ 1:32 pm

I think all of non-Sydney-ites will welcome the following advice from Anne on getting to the conference!

“How to get to CYCA!

The Club is conveniently close to the city (less than 10 minutes by taxi in non-peak times), airport (less than 25 minutes by taxi) and public transport facilities including buses and trains.

Edgecliff is the closest train station, less than 10 minutes walk from the Club, and services on the eastern suburbs lines run frequently.

New Beach Rd has a scheduled bus route #327 originating in the city and ending in Bondi Junction. See this map (.pdf)

Water taxi pick-up and drop off on the marina is available - if you feel like spoiling yourself!

There is no scheduled ferry service into Rushcutters Bay.

Parking - there isn’t any! All parking is limited to 1 - 2 hours, unless you park somewhere in Paddington (other side of New South Head Rd) and walk down. Suggest you leave the car at home!

If you’re staying at the Vibe Hotel - just walk across the park!”

Venue - Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

Filed under: General, Venue — James @ 4:20 pm

Well, we’ve finalised an incomparable venue, you’re not going to believe this.

The organising committee have been searching central Sydney to find a venue that not only meets the needs of this type of conference, but one that is different, will stimulate creativity, dialogue and networking – a very special kind of atmosphere is required – quite a challenge – and within budgetary constraints…! Much scratching of heads has been done, many lattes have been drunk and several ‘test’ lunches have been consumed. All in the name of Blogtalk.

Well – we’ve found it!

CYCA clubhouseThe inaugural BlogTalk Downunder conference will be held at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA).

Probably one of Sydney’s best known summer icons the club hosts the world famous Sydney to Hobart ocean yacht race with up top 150 competitors, hundreds of spectator vessels and thousands of people crowding all vantage points along the cliffs of the Harbour to send off the competitors in typical Sydney style.

CYCA yaughtsThat could be you, cheering on fellow Blogtalk participants.

CYCA is located on Sydney Harbour in Rushcutters Bay – only 5 minutes from the CBD so a stroll or a short trip on public transport should be all that’s required.

We’ll publish more details on getting to the venue prior to the event but one things for sure, this is going to be one beaut place to be for a few balmy autumn days in Sydney.
