Conversation around Twitter

Following the recently published Educause article 7 Things You Should Know About Twitter, I posted my thoughts on Twitter at Internet Time Community and got some great responses.

I wrote – I am using Twitter as my micro-blogging for a while now and loving it. Best part of Twitter is the way it integrates with my blog (through TwitterFeed), my RSS reader (by Greasemonkey), my IM client(s) and my mobile phone. No doubt it’s helping me on my personal knowledge management. My question : do you think Twitter can play a role in informal, serendipitous learning? In corporate environment? In academic environment? Do you have any example in mind?

maybe ask the expert – fling your question from wherever you are -up to the twitter network / global watercooler and get an answer (live Yahoo Answers or similar). I’m not using twitter in my role but started following a conversation with Karyn (Romeis) a few weeks ago and it seems useful. I was thinking – it would be good to use for project updates – imagine if you want a quick update from all of your project team – they can send a quick one-liner and you can see all in one place / timeline.

From a corporate perspective I could envision using Twitter as a means to provide a quick “shout out” to coworkers when I need assistance in performing a particular activity. These are activities that fall within the area of the unconscious competency of most coworkers so there has never been an understood need to document the procedure.

Currently there are two general means of finding someone to guide you in performing the activity.Walk from cube to cube and ask coworkers for assistance running the risk of pissing them off because they either

Same time at her blog, Ignatia posted a nice comparison chart of Twitter, Jaiku and Pownce

I added a cheesy analogy (following Dina Mehta’s lead) to the comparison
Jaiku is like a 5 course meal in a good restaurant.
Pownce is like dinner at a 5 star dining place with a so called very classy wine.
And Twitter is sandwich + coffee!

Here is my question – how many times we actually settle for Sandwich and coffee only in real life? No frills, easy, customizable and it works!
