Why don’t I care about Flickr?

Why don’t I care about Flickr?
Because Flickr don’t care about me?
Why is it that I’d rather
Sample my pics through a feed?

Perhaps I’m just not that visual
Perhaps I’m not social enough
Perhaps it’s the same as with podcasts
I just don’t give much of a stuff!

I like some good ol annotation
Or maybe a good ‘un a day
Yeh it’s fun to get all those tags out
But I still feel compelled to say;

I really don’t care much for Flickr
I wouldn’t despair if it died
I’d still get plenty of pictures
I thought I liked it, but I lied.

  1. Is there a melody I should be humming with this?

  2. More of a chant… I was thinking of a yellow submarine version but y’know

  3. I don’t get flickr. I think it’s fine for people using free services that don’t provide storage, like blogger. But for people that pay for hosting, why would you want to put your pictures somewhere else?

  4. James, you are so funny… problem was I slipped into a “Cornish” or “Somerset” tainted accent when i read this…

Oh, have publish’d the 1st verse on my LJ ;)

  5. …working on the melody & backing as we speak, James you wanna “do” the vocal down my place..? Any genre preferences - Rock, folk, down-beat, dub reggee, house, hip-hop..?

  6. Great poem, but poor Flickr! I find it’s very useful for keeping bandwidth charges down, especially when planet sites aggregate my content!

  7. I think Flickr is great. That has to do with many things. I use it in my teaching as the easies way of explaining and experiencing with folksonomies. It is also a good social networking tool - that probably because most of the people that share my views about where we are heading also have flickr acounts. Also work similar as many other tools such as youtube, del.ico.us .. I request all my students to have flickr acounts and link those with their blogs so the write in their blogs from flickr. They dont have payed accounts I am the only one with pro account. But just to have user name on flickr and have the opportunity to search by tags and blog other peoples pictures is useful.

  8. I think Flickr will cope with the stress. Good point re: bandwidth. Am sure it works for *some* people.. seems to be fairly popular ;)

  9. [...] James Farmer wrote a poem about Flickr, and included me in it! [...]
