ScuttleEDU
Wow… Todd has been doing some amazing things with Scuttle and the latest - am I about to be proved wrong… wouldn’t be the first time :o) - is social bookmarking for educators.
He’s currently looking for testers, so head over there and see what you think… it’s going to be interesting to say the least!

I look at this, and I think to myself, “Why?” It’s not that I think the idea is bad as I understand it: create a link archive of use to educators. Rather, I wonder why I would want to go add to a specific community archive.
Mind you, I just contributed this comment to this archive. But, this comment is a remark in passing, not a commitment to keep on posting here.
Would this idea work better in a distributed implementation? Would it work better as a small team effort that others could just come and casually comment on?
Somebody needs to own it and then harvest others’ incidental contributions.

I’m disturbed by the idea of mixing social tagging and formal taxonomy in this way. Seems like mixing metaphors, doesn’t it? Especially in education, where we’re trying to come to terms with the leveling nature of social technologies. What grade you’re in [or teach], and whether you’re a student or teacher, are less and less important all the time.
